“LPod's Thanksgiving Pass 2024"

“LPod's Thanksgiving Pass 2024"

from $246.00

“LPod’s Thanksgiving Pass 2024” is a series of ten 7” x 18” prints created using the reductive or elimination method of linocut.  The reductive method of linocut involves a number of color overprints made from a single piece of linoleum, with more of the linoleum being cut away for each overprinted color. By the end of the reductive process, the linoleum is almost entirely carved away and no additional prints can be made.

Seven prints in the series feature a blue sky and three prints feature a pink sky.  Each print is unique in color and variant. When you select a numbered print from the series on the dropdown menu, the print associated with that number will appear at the top of the page.

This print is sold unframed. If you want a framed print, you may add the frame to the cost of the print by choosing that option and adding it to your cart.

The Southern Resident killer whales are a genetically and culturally distinct population of orcas within the Pacific Northwest and consist of three separate pods: J, K, and L Pods. L Pod is the largest pod out of the three Southern Resident pods.

On November 30, 2024, L Pod—all 35 of them—visited the Puget Sound. The first hint of the visit was orca calls and sounds on the Sunset Bay hydrophone at 6:10 am. By 1:10 p.m., they reached Point Robinson. It was a spectacular pass. There was tail slapping, porpoising, backstroking, and overall joyful behavior. For those on shore, the whales were almost close enough to touch. When they passed under Mount Rainier, Pacific Northwest beauty was on full display. A video of the pass that I took on that lucky day is below.
