“Sardines 1.0” is a limited series of fourteen 7” x 8” prints created using the reductive or elimination method of linocut. The process involves a number of color overprints made from a single piece of rubber block with more of the block being cut away for each overprinted color. This block uses transparent water-based inks.

On this piece, the first parts carved out of the block were what remains white on the print, and a light yellow was inked over the block. Then the piece was pressed in my Woodzilla Press, transferring the yellow ink to paper. This process was repeated several times until the print is finished.

By the end of the reductive process, the rubber block is almost entirely carved away and no additional prints can be made.

“Sardines” was created in anticipation of teaching a one-day reductive lincut class in the Fall. Stay tuned!

These prints are packaged with cardboard backing in a see-through sleeve.
